NHCHC Gives Away Flu Manual for Shelters, Service Providers
Posted: 11/13/2009
The National Health Care for the Homeless Council (NHCHC) has developed a manual for homeless shelters and other service providers as they plan for and respond to the special needs of homeless individuals during the influenza season. The manual, which is available online, consolidates a number of materials developed by credible authorities, and covers topics including:
- General information about the 2009-10 seasonal influenza and H1N1 (“swine flu”) influenza
- Symptoms of influenza
- Influenza transmission
- Methods to decrease the spread of influenza among residents, clients, staff, volunteers, and visitors to homeless shelters and other service sites
- Caring for clients who have influenza or influenza-like illness
- The importance of working with local, state, tribal, territorial and national agencies
NHCHC is also making hard copies of the manual, titled Pandemic Influenza Guidance for Homeless Shelters & Homeless Service Providers, available for free upon request until Dec. 31. To get your copy, email the National Council Administrative Coordinator Pat Petty at ppetty@nhchc.org.
