Removing Legal Barriers to Employment for Veterans in HVRP: Connecting to VA Legal Services

To facilitate employment readiness, HVRP grantees must often work with participants to address misdemeanor charges, discharge upgrades, child support issues, and other legal issues that can act as barriers to training, education, employment placement, and career growth. On Tuesday, November 13, 2014, at 2 p.m. EST, NCHV’s Technical Assistance Center hosted “Removing Legal Barriers to Employment for Veterans in HVRP: Connecting to VA Legal Services.” This webinar provided an overview of the Veterans Justice Outreach (VJO) Program, Health Care for Re-entry Veterans (HCRV) Program, and how they are involved with the effort to connect veterans to non-VA legal services.

HVRP grantees learned about VA programs for justice-involved veterans within their agencies serving homeless and at-risk veterans, improving their partnerships with local VA staff and programs providing services to justice-involved veterans, and thinking holistically about meeting the needs of veterans transitioning from prisons or jails.
