Employment for Veterans with Behavioral Health Issues

On Jan. 15, 2015, NCHV and NVTAC held a webinar examining the fundamental concepts and techniques for assisting Veterans that have behavior health issues. It is estimated that 45% of unemployed Veterans suffer from some type of mental illness. The focus was on the mental illnesses that affect Veterans such as Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance abuse, and traumatic brain injury (TBI).  The webinar will assisted in answering the following types of questions:

  • What do you need to know about mental illnesses to assist Veterans with employment?
  • How can you address employer’s concerns about hiring a Veteran that has a mental illness?
  • Should Veterans with unaddressed mental illness have to be in treatment before employment?
  • How can the Homeless Veterans' Reintegration Program (HVRP) program best assist Veterans with mental illness be successful in the workplace?
