The conference is an opportunity for service providers to access knowledge, training and experience to increase the effectiveness of their organizations in assisting homeless veterans.</P> <P>In addition to learning opportunities at this year s conference, attendees will be able to participate in the NCHV Membership Meeting and partake in the Annual NCHV Awards Banquet where peers in the homeless veterans assistance movement will receive recognition for their accomplishments.</P> <P>This year, NCHV is inviting interested parties to submit proposals to present at the Annual Conference. Under provisions of its EUL Statute, the VA is authorized to lease property under its jurisdiction either to enhance it or to demonstrably improve services to eligible veterans. Mission Homeless EUL opportunities are open to those with a proven track record of developing affordable housing and providing support services to the homeless, including homeless veterans.</P> <P>Requests for Proposals (RFPs) are available via registration at the links below. Proposals are due no later than noon on December 8, 2009. The page provides general information about the flu and flu prevention, as well as an <STRONG><A href="http://www.publichealth.va.gov/apps/h1n1assessment/">H1N1 self-assessment tool</A></STRONG>. Additionally, the VA has made the following announcement regarding vaccines:</P> <P style="PADDING-LEFT: 30px">This year,&nbsp;VA hopes to give more than 3 million veterans and VA staff <STRONG>seasonal flu vaccine</STRONG> and is preparing to give <STRONG>H1N1 flu vaccine</STRONG> to a similar number of veterans and VA staff, if it is approved for use. At the request of the White House, VA is also preparing to help vaccinate some other federal employees as well.</P> <P>Veterans with health concerns can contact their <STRONG><A href="http://www.va.gov/directory/">nearest VA medical facility</A></STRONG> or call the VA toll-free at 1-800-827-1000.</P> <P>To view the H1N1 flu&nbsp;page, <STRONG><A href="http://www.publichealth.va.gov/h1n1flu/">click here</A></STRONG>.</P> <P><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: medium"><STRONG>Nat l Technical Assistance Center Holds HVRP Webcast</STRONG></SPAN></P> <P>On Nov. 18 at 2 p.m., the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) National Technical Assistance Center at Virginia Commonwealth University will hold a webcast titled  Implementing HVRP In-house Work Centers. The webcast, hosted by Richard Salnick, will aim to assist HVRP centers that are considering the use of in-house call centers for their clients. Topics discussed&nbsp;will include the anticipated costs of a call center and a method to determine what actions should be taken to implement it.</P> <P>The webcast will last 45 minutes, until&nbsp;2:45 p.m., and will be followed by a chatroom session with Salnick&nbsp;from 2:45 - 3:15 p.m.</P> <P>To register for the webcast, <STRONG><A href="http://www.hvrp.org/registration/webcast/index.cfm?webcastID=153">click here</A></STRONG>.</P> <P><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: medium"><STRONG>Funding Opportunities</STRONG></SPAN></P> <P><STRONG>The Caterpillar Foundation</STRONG> provides funding and support to 501(c)(3) organizations. Founded in 1952, the Foundation has distributed almost $200 million to support education; health and human services; and civic, cultural and environmental causes. In communities where Caterpillar employees live and work, the Foundation funds organizations that provide basic human needs such as food, shelter and clothing and help build self-reliance. Nearly $15 million was contributed to health and human services organizations in 2008.</P> <P>Requests for funding are accepted year round and should be sent to the your nearest Caterpillar location. For more information, <STRONG><A href="http://www.cat.com/foundation">click here</A></STRONG>.</P> <P><STRONG>The Chicago Community Trust </STRONG>provides critical charitable resources for the arts; community and economic development; education; health and wellness; hunger and homeless alleviation; legal services; programs for youth, the elderly and people with disabilities; and services to assure basic human needs are met for all members of the metropolitan Chicago community. The Trust s Basic Human Needs grant program, in particular, focuses on the following priorities: preventing and ending homelessness, preventing and reducing hunger, protecting the public safety net and strengthening human services agencies. Daveis Benevolent Fund</STRONG> was established in 1943 to benefit nonprofit organizations serving the Greater Portland area. Grants of up to $5,000 are awarded for projects that benefit this area. Collaboration among nonprofits is encouraged, and a letter of support from each partner should be included with the grant application, which must be received by email or postmarked by November 15.
