Deadline Approaching for 2010 NCHV Annual Conference Abstract Submissions The 2010 NCHV Annual Conference and Membership Meeting, “Supporting the Five-Year Plan,” is still several months away, but conference-related deadlines are fast approaching. For those who would like to submit proposals to present at the conference, please email a completed form and draft agenda to Melanie Lilliston by this Friday, Dec. 18. Also, an exhibitor registration form is now available for those who would like to have a visual presence at next year’s conference. Exhibits provide an opportunity to showcase your organization’s services to a national community. For more information and to register for the 2010 Conference, click here. VA Amends Community Residential Care Regulations The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has amended its Community Residential Care regulations to update the standards for VA approval of facilities, including standards for fire safety and heating and cooling systems. The rule also establishes a 12-month duration for VA approvals and would authorize provisional approval of certain facilities. Finally, the rule eliminates the statement of needed care requirement and clarifies that it is the care providers at the facility that determine the services needed by a particular veteran. This amendment becomes effective on Jan. 4, 2010. For more details and for contact information regarding this rule, click here. NCHV Celebrates 20 Years of Representing Service Providers The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans (NCHV) is entering its 20th year of existence in 2010. Looking back, the years are marked with tireless work and fond memories… but perhaps more than anything, we appreciate the challenges that lie ahead. Establishing ourselves as a vital voice on Capitol Hill hasn’t been easy. The result, however, has been humbling: the Obama Administration has taken up our cause, and the Congress regularly seeks our input. No one in this country is in a better position to effectively represent the needs of homeless veteran service providers than we are. Your contributions have helped keep us strong for 20 years, and we are forever grateful – we can’t move forward without you, and we hope that you continue to invest in our campaign to end and prevent veteran homelessness. As we enter the holiday season, please consider NCHV in any charitable donations you may be planning. Every contribution is appreciated, and we wish you happy holidays from NCHV! VCU Holds Job Development, Employment Teleconferences The Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) National Technical Assistance Center at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is holding teleconferences over the next few months.
